Documents include incomplete petition, 13 Feb. 1863, Hickory Hill, S.C., to General [Peirre Gustav Toutant] Beauregard, apparently written in Goethe's hand and endorsed by residents, requesting that Goethe be excluded from military service as he was the only physician in a poor neighborhood; and account, 29 June 1864, of medical hospital supplies received at Camp Oaks near McPhersonville, S.C. Also includes letters, 1 July 1864, Pocotaligo, S.C., to Thomas Lining, requesting a supply of whiskey for medicinal purposes; and 5 Aug. 1864, McPhersonville, S.C., to C.S. Stringfellow, requesting forage for another horse due to the great distances traveled by Goethe in his position as army surgeon.
